There is not nearly enough cynicism available on the www these days.  I have pounced onto the information superhighway, albeit a little late to the
party.  With so many ahead of me who have actual talent, I intend to stay behind the leaders and draft.
That puts me in the slipstream and I am not so much here to protect.  I am here to serve, baby.

June 15,  2008                                                                               Cars

Steamboat Springs held the 20th annual Rocky Mt. Ford Mustang Roundup this weekend. Bazillions of
Mustangs came to town to compete in road rallies and to show off their cars. This event has become
bigger over the years and is really fun.
Mom and the twins wandered through our back yard on
Saturday morning. This sight has been extremely rare around
here. Bears usually stay at higher altitudes. Since I was a kid, I
have seen one Mom and one cub (no camera that day), and
one HUGE male trotting across an open area (no camera). It
was a thrill to see this mom and her twin cubs. Most photos
were made from inside our house. When I did take a few steps
out on the porch, Cher held the door for me to rush back in.
There is no reason to take a chance with a mama bear
protecting her cubs. She would kill me quickly if she felt they
were threatened. As it turned out, she never game me a glance.
The cubs noticed me, but mom ignored me. It's okay. I get that
a lot from the ladies.

June 27, 2008                                                                         Joy

She is elderly now. It is impressive that her deteriorating body does not seem to upset her like mine does to me. Hearing is a
challenge for her. Seeing things that she has always seen does not happen as often now. Quick movement has left her. Arthritis
is always looming and yet, she never complains at all. Never. She adapts.

She can tell time as if she wears a watch. Time for walk, time for dinner, time for a treat, the sun is setting so let’s go sit on the
porch now. That is what we are supposed to do at this time of day. Maybe the foxes will visit. Personality wise, she seems to feel
much more entitled to her routine now. It bothers her noticeably if it gets changed. She deals with her medical difficulties in an
accepting manner because what is important is that she lays in the cool, shaded grass before the sun goes down.

The magpies usually tip us off if a fox or a deer are coming. Magpies are like the Gladys Cravitz of this neighborhood…busybodies
who like to make noise, but never really tell you anything. Magpies have no ability to prioritize what they see. Everything is of utmost
importance to them. Everything is life and death to them, whether it actually is or not.

We voted. Two to zip. We do not like magpies.

My friend is fourteen years old. I constantly fight off the pain of knowing our time together is short. The joy of her routine has
become my routine. She is a member of our family and it has been so since she was five weeks old. I celebrate her life well lived
every single day.

She brings me great joy.
