There is not nearly enough cynicism available on the www these days. I have pounced onto the information superhighway, albeit a little late to the party. With so many ahead of me who have actual talent, I intend to stay behind the leaders and draft. That puts me in the slipstream and I am not so much here to protect. I am here to serve, baby.

Photos of a Young Girl I Never Knew
Giggly girls in a photobooth can be seen in any mall today, not
that I am a mall expert. I have been about twice since 1995. Not
kidding. But even kids today find fun with a photobooth. I have
seen the pictures.
This particular photobooth session occurred in 1938 in a little
town in Texas, probably in a drugstore in Mineral Wells. I do not
know who the young girl is on the right of this picture. The girl on
the left grew up to be my mother.
In this photograph, she is 9 years old.
Being able to see photographs of my mom in the scenes of her
life that I did not get to see in person is soothing to me. It allows
me unquestionable confirmation that she was happy.

Mom was thirteen years old in this photograph and it is one of my very
favorites. Photographs of her childhood add enormous perspective for
me now. The only sadness about it for me is that her life was too short.
It was short, but meaningful. She would be quite proud of my
assessment.
It is so difficult to think of her at the same age that my niece is now.
Having these photos from her childhood elevate the importance of my
own photographs. These are way more meaningful now than anyone
could have imagined at the time they were taken. So it might be with my
photos. That is fun to imagine.

On the left is Mary Sue. She is my aunt...my
mother's sister. My brother and I have always
called her Suzy. I suspect it was easier to say
when we were little and it stuck...for us. To my
knowledge, no one else on the planet calls her
Suzy. People who know her are always surprised
when we call her by that name. Everyone knows
brother. She is just as beautiful now as she was
then.
On the right is my mother at age 15. The
photograph was taken on the porch of their
house, probably by my grandmother.
I honestly do not know the words to explain to you
how much I love this photograph.
Kiss your mom today.
