July 10, 2009 Married Our son was married to Kelly last weekend in Palos Verdes, California. No earthquakes. Just fun. It is hard to imagine that such an event could be more enjoyable to me. It was a wonderful part of life. If you click on this photo, you can see the video and it is just great. There is music.
July 15, 2009 As In The Hearts of the People It is a universal truth that buying pants for growing boys is a virtual minefield. We can put a man on the moon, but try and make pants fit for more than a few months and... So, I admired Lincoln on this day in 1965 while well prepared if any pipes burst or floods descended upon us. Such circumstances would have resulted in the sad loss of those double-sharp gray Hush Puppy suede shoes. It was obviously red-shirt day in Washington. Judging by the length of cuff on those jeans, my brother was well prepared for any sudden nine inch growth spurts that would cause new-pants-purchases for mere mortals. I have buried the lead here. Kudos to Pop for this absolutely gorgeous photograph. The light is magnificent. The slightly grainy look is what will keep photogs shooting on film until digital figures out how to duplicate it. I love the stance of the gray-suited man next to us. The feel of the peoples' dress is decidedly 1960s. Pop took a lot of absurdly bad photos and I teased him about it late in his life. But this one should win some award for major awesomeness. Here is a bonus over at the Washington Monument. I am confident that neither of us complained once about posing. Psyche.

July 19, 2009 Measuring the Cat It is a good hobby. This is my wife. It was taken on slide film by her grandfather, C.S., when she was about four years old. That would make it 1958. She was even gorgeous then. In 1958, there were no electronic strobes. Photos such as this were shot with flashbulbs. One bulb per exposure. When the bulb finally cooled off, you removed it and inserted another. NO! You could not just order some more off Amazon. Good grief, you people are all so young.

July 28, 2009 Fifty Years Ago Today She has always had plenty to say. The red shoes are just plain her. After seeing these slides taken by her grandfather, I suggested to her that we have some more kids. I got "duded." As in, "get lost, dude." Happy Birthday, Cher.
